Claris Charles a native of St. John is a well respected national who has demonstrated the highest levels of achievement. The high levels of productivity and enterprise in her native Constituency, which is the fishing capital of Grenada, have shaped her desire for achievement and excellence.
Among her educational qualifications is a Certificate in Teacher Education (UWI) 1972, National Certificate in Business and Finance (BTEC) England 1987, Honors Diploma – Business Administration and Certificate in Marketing from the University of Technology Jamaica and the Jamaica Institute of Marketing respectively.
Claris Charles is knowledgeable in marketing, commercial law, salesmanship, accounts, statistics, business mathematics, business administration, economics, data processing and entrepreneurial skills.

Claris Charles’ work experience and training includes teaching and tutoring (1967–1989), research skills and project planning, measurement and testing, administration, strategic planning, industrial relations, participation in seminars on freedom of association and on the European Union and its implications for the Caribbean in 1992. Participation in the formulation of a CCL’s document entitled, “Productivity Issues”. Computer workshop in Trinidad (1991), Office Management – Barbados (1992), OECS Private Sector seminar – Dominica (1993), Women’s Seminar – Cornell University (1993), ILO Productivity Seminar – Barbados (1993), Labor Relations in a World of Change (1994) and Harmonization of Labor Law (1995).

Her community and professional activities have contributed to the development of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Claris Charles’ influence has positively impacted on adult literacy, Trade Unions, Grenada Metrication Board, Grenada Food and Nutrition Council, Grenada Bureau of Standards, Grenada Development Bank, Grenada Training Awards Committee and the Caribbean Congress of Labor.

Claris Charles knows about the minor workings of governance since she served on the Public Utilities Committee (1993–1994), adviser to the Minister for Education (1995), Personal Assistant to the Prime Minister (1996), Advisor to the Prime Minister (1997–1998), Minister of State for Information, Prime Minister’s Office (1999) and Minister of Agriculture, Lands, Forestry and Fisheries.

Claris Charles is extremely knowledgeable about the structure and function of government service. She is an effective manager and an excellent administrator with good organizational skills. Her knowledge of various aspects of governance more than qualifies her to solidify her status as the best Member of Parliament for the Constituency of St. John’s.
